Cheaper Cleaner Water

Goals of Our Task Force

We want all Millcreek residents to pay the same low rates for water that those Millcreek residents who are served by Erie Water Works now pay.

We want all Millcreek residences and businesses to have clean, high-quality water and we want both the Yoder and McDowell wells permanently shut down.

Benefits of Achieving Our Goals

  • Cheaper Water!
  • Higher-Quality Water (no well water blended in)
  • Cheaper Service (no need for water softener service or bottled water)
  • Cheaper, higher-quality water retains and attracts businesses
  • Lack of red tape involved in having two water providers serving the same area

Problems and delays could be avoided if there were a single water service provider. Having the largest customer base enables the Erie Water Works to spread costs more efficiently AND economically.

Having a single water provider not only makes sense in every way imaginable, but would make perfect “cents” to those Millcreek Water Authority customers paying as much as 70% more than their neighbors in Millcreek that are direct customers of the Erie Water Works.

What has the Task Force Accomplished thus far?

We realize that back when the Millcreek Water Authority was formed, it was necessary to create this entity to provide water to areas of the township that had no public water service. At that time, the water was under the control of Erie City Council, so many extensions were not possible. This is not the case today, so as a group of concerned citizens and business owners, we met with the Millcreek Township Supervisors and asked them to eliminate the Millcreek Water Authority and allow those 6,000 residences and businesses to receive cheaper, cleaner water that is of higher quality (no well water) directly from the Erie Water Works, just as 10,000 Millcreek residences and businesses currently do. When they would not agree to do that, a compromise was reached resulting in the Township Supervisors commissioning a study paid for with a grant.

Common Concerns >>

The task force has made it clear that any solution that does not make rates equal for all Millcreek residences and business, and eliminates well water, will not be acceptable.
